Story

The Origin Story of Andy Crebar

I spent much of my early life feeling behind. Behind in the room. Behind in my career. That feeling pushed me into finance, startups and company building. Along the way, I learned how hard it is to build, lead and keep going even when things get messy.

Today, my company supports 500+ businesses across Australia every month, and we partner with digital agency founders who are ready for their next chapter.

The Youngest in the Room

I grew up in Sydney as the youngest of four kids in an immigrant family.

My dad's grandparents came to Australia in 1952 with no money and no English, so the idea of building a better future was always close to home.

I found a deep respect in learning from others, working hard and earning my place.

The Pressure Cooker

My first real job in finance was a hard start.

The hours were long, the standard was high and the learning curve was steep.

Tonnes of incredible mentors and learning moments. It gave me the commercial foundation I still rely on today.

The One-Way Ticket

I wanted to build something more tangible.

My wife and I packed up our life and bought a one-way ticket to the United States.

In San Francisco, I joined an early-stage fintech company and saw how product, people, customers, capital and culture come together to create real impact.

Zero to 1

In 2016, one of my best friends from childhood was sleeping on our couch while we explored ideas together.

Over a bowl of ramen in Japantown, we decided to go all in. We built a platform that helped companies onboard and support their people, working with teams at companies like Credit Karma, MasterClass and Warby Parker.

At the end of 2020, the company was acquired by a private equity firm.

When the Market Turned

After that, my CTO and I launched HoneyBricks to make high-quality commercial real estate deals more accessible to private investors.

The idea made sense and the team was strong, but the market changed and our pivot didn't work.

Eventually, we found the right owner for the next stage of the company in early 2024.

Homecoming

After 10 years away, we decided it was time to come home.

When you're moving 12,493km, most things are not worth taking. So you declutter your life.

We packed up a few boxes, donated the rest and moved our growing family back to Sydney.

Building What Lasts

I spent much of my career starting from zero.

Now I'm interested in what can be improved and compounded for decades.
